Introduction

This blog intends to provide information on how to fix the speed variation problem in the Technics SL-DZ1200 digital turntable. The five steps shown by the pictures below illustrate how to achieve the Sensor PCB and the Earth Plate, which are the components we are going to clean up.. After that you can see a lot of videos and pictures on how me and my brother found out the solution for this problem.

What you need

The purpose of this blog is giving a help to many people who bought a sldz1200 and had the speed variation problem.... for fixing that problem you need a screw driver, the ear cleaning object (sorry, :-( don't know how to translate "cotonete" from portuguese to english), Isopropyl alcohol, beers and pieces of cheese for a enjoyable technics cleaning...

Opening procedures

Remove the front cover so that you can find the screws

Removing the screws

Open the frontal panel

Notice how dirty the Earth Plate (a plastic tape) is and remove the reading head

Taking the head out (this is really a detailed explanation blog :-D)

Now is time of the Cheese!!!

Make your technichs cleaning enjoyable... stop a little and enjoy slices of cheese with some cold beer...

So this is the Sensor that you have to clean

Cleaning the Earth Plate (a plastic internal tape)

Take the cotton swab (ufff that was really tough to translate...thank you google) and put a little isopropyl alcohol... don't get too hard with the beers... you can end up with a face like this guy...

Cleaning the internal tape part 2

With the cotton swab clean the internal tape...

Cleaning the Sensor PCB

Now is time of the sensor... with the cotton swab clean the sensor...

Cleaning the sensor part 2

Now there is a very important step... take a piece of smooth paper with alcohol and clean the internal part of the reader...

Cleaning the down side of the Earth Plate

Put the Sensor back again

Then put the sensor back again.... notice that the tape shall fit in the middle of the the sensor...

Showing the adjustment again...

Second video for a better explanation of the head position adjustment...

Adjusting the head position

Now is the most important step... by adjusting the two fixing screws you notice that the head starts to read the tape then you can adjust for a perfect sound...
